The events depicted in the short video below took place over the course of six hours on May 25, 2014. For a full account of these events and some background, you can read From Nestling to Fledgling. For best viewing quality, select HD (1080p) and enlarge video.Regrettably, I was unable to get a proper video of the precious fledging moments even though it occured three times before my marvelled eyes. This is due to my camera’s technical limitations and because I had to save my battery life for the whole event: it was impossible for me to keep the camera running until the hesistant chicks made up their mind―which took a very long time!
Wonderful little clip!

Thanks for watching! It was a wonderful experience, such a special moment for the chicks, and such friendly little babies 🙂

You’d like the BBC TV series called Life Story. Episode 1 especially. There are similar moments captured by the team, with barnacle geese instead of blue tit chicks.

So crazy! I watched that poor goose chick drop off the cliff all the way down, and I couldn’t believe it was still alive after hitting the rocks so many times… Unfortunately, I can’t watch full episodes because I’m outside of the UK. Bummer.

Crazy indeed, their little bodies were so floppy each time they struck the rock face, miraculously all of the chicks had survived.
It might be out on DVD soon, there are bird footages featured in each episode

Nature is so rough. We always feel anxious and sorry for these little creatures, but that’s how they get tough and manage to survive: the truest heroes!

Well said. Millions of years of evolution have given these little fluff-balls the tools they need to be what they are.
